I began my research on my double page spread. I have decided to create an article about the five most popular 'pub drugs' interviewing club-goers and police officers to gain a neutral account.

I created a publication plan for my magazine which i will use as a guideline for when i create my magazine.

This is my publication plan:

Title: neon
Positioning statement: Everything you need to know in one jam-packed magazine
Frequency of Publication: Monthly
Price: £3.00
Distribution: Newsagents, supermarkets, music stores, clubs and subscription.
Rationale: The approach of my magazine is to attract all dance fans who enjoy going to clubs. The magazine will include everything fans need to know from different competitor magazines.
Style: The register of my magazine will be informal and chatty however it will be clear that the subject, dance, is serious.
Regular Content: Event listings, interviews, DJ columns, DJ polls, dance charts, pictures, and news.
Feature Content: 'Get Down and Dirty' – an interview with a drum and bass band, Pendulum. 'Drink Dangers' – a police investigation into alcohol and drug induced violence. 'Club Culture' – investigations into numerous clubs to see which is the best.
House Style: Bauhaus 93
Coverlines: Berlin Sans FB Demi
Headlines: Arial Rounded MT Bold, Bold
Standfirst: 14pt Arial Narrow
Captions: 8pt Arial Unicode MS
Feature's first paragraph: CORBEL, Capitals
News first paragraph:

I tallied up the results I had received from my target audience and imported them into Microsoft Excel, forming graphs and adding conclusions beneath them to sum up what they mean. I then added these results to my PowerPoint.

10/11/08 – 14/11/08

This week I created a questionnaire and passed them round my target audience (18 – 25) for them to be filled in.

4/11/08 – 7/11/08

Throughout the next few lessons, I created a PowerPoint presentation including the research for my dance magazine which was looking up competitor magazines such as ‘Mixmag’: www.mixmag.net, 'DJ Mag': www.djmag.com and 'M8 Magazine': www.m8magazine.com. Below is a link to this PowerPoint presentation.

This lesson we decided what genre of music we were doing for our magazine. We discussed our genre and target audience. I have decided to create a dance music magazine with a target audience ranging from 18 to 25 because dance is usually associated with young adults/students who go to clubs as well as drinking alcohol.
